Obstage is exactly what it sounds like – a combination of obstacles and dressage!
When riding a dressage test, you are given the pattern and movements you are required to ride, described by using letters at specific points of the arena and with instructions when to walk, trot, canter etc. Movements may include various transitions, circles, changes of direction, and lateral work. The emphasis is on harmony and accuracy.

Riding obstacles involves items such as gates, corridors, side-passing poles, and other challenges that test the horse's agility and the rider's skill in guiding the horse through the course. The emphasis is on smoothness, confidence, and control as the horse and rider tackle each obstacle and it mimics practical skills useful when riding.

Obstage brings the two elements together with the intention being to flow from dressage components into obstacle components to produce a balanced, fluid, and accurate test, demonstrating precision, agility and partnership between horse and rider. It can be ridden in any tack, but a contact / soft feel is encouraged.
